InterSub is an AI subtitle translator for your browser: it translates the subtitles of the video you are watching, line by line, and shows the translation under the original. You don't upload or download subtitle files; it all happens in the player on YouTube, Netflix, Udemy and other sites.

How to translate subtitles with AI

  1. Install InterSub

    Add the free InterSub extension to Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Firefox. Links for every browser are on the install page.

  2. Choose your languages

    Right after installation InterSub asks which language to translate from and which to translate into. Dual subtitles are on by default.

  3. Play a video with subtitles

    If the player has subtitles in your language, InterSub shows them as the second line. If it has only the original track, the AI subtitle translator translates each line on the fly.

What the AI subtitle translator does

  • A translation under every line. The original subtitle stays on top and its translation appears under it, so you hear the original and read the meaning at the same time.

  • AI only where you need it. If the video already has subtitles in your language, InterSub shows that track for free. The AI steps in when there is only one track, often English or auto-generated captions. If a video has no subtitles at all, InterSub has nothing to translate.

  • Live translation of the second line. Sometimes the subtitles in your language follow the dub, which can differ from the original dialogue. Turn on Translate 2nd subtitles (live) in Settings, and InterSub ignores that track and translates the original line by line instead.

  • Second line only on pause. Understand most of the video already? Keep one subtitle line while it plays and see the translation only when you pause.

  • Pop-up dictionary on every word. Hover over a word in the subtitles: the video pauses and the pop-up dictionary shows its meaning with a context translation. The word goes to your Wordbook.

Does InterSub translate subtitle files like SRT?

No. InterSub translates subtitles live, in the video player in your browser. It does not open, translate or export subtitle files.

How much does the AI subtitle translator cost?

Where does it work?

On YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney+, Crunchyroll, Coursera, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, TED and the other platforms on the how-to page, in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox. On Crunchyroll it gives you AI subtitles for anime.

What if a video has no subtitles?

Then there is nothing to translate. InterSub works with the subtitle text of the video and does not make subtitles from the audio.

Which languages can it translate into?

InterSub supports dozens of language pairs, such as English to Spanish, Spanish to English, English to Japanese and German to English. You choose the languages when you install InterSub and can change them later in the extension settings.

Does InterSub dub videos?

No. It shows the original line and its translation as text and does not change the audio.
