InterSub is a dual subtitles extension and translator extension for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox, made for language learning. It shows interactive dual subtitles and instant word translations on YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney+, Crunchyroll, Bilibili.tv, Shahid and TED, and on course platforms Coursera, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, Domestika, DW Learn German and Learn.cantrill.io.

InterSub integrates with your browser and provides real-time dual subtitles (in your native and target languages) while you watch videos. It also offers instant translations when you hover over unfamiliar words, enhancing your learning experience. InterSub saves all the words you looked up while watching videos in your InterSub Dashboard. To have access to InterSub Dashboard – click “Dashboard” in the plugin settings.

Install InterSub, open any show on Netflix and pick your languages in the extension settings: the original subtitle and its translation appear together, one above the other. These Netflix double subtitles work the same way on YouTube and the other supported platforms, and if Netflix has no subtitles in your language, the AI subtitle translator adds the second line. Dual subs, no extra tabs.

Yes, InterSub is designed for learners at all levels, including beginners. The dual subtitle feature and instant translations make it easier for newcomers to understand content in their target language.

Yes. Choose a Japanese audio track and InterSub shows dual subtitles, Japanese and your language, with a pop-up dictionary for every word. On paid plans the AI subtitle translator can add Crunchyroll AI subtitles in your language when a video has none.

Seeing «Loading subtitles» that never finishes? On Crunchyroll this usually means the video has no Japanese subtitles in your region. Crunchyroll decides which subtitles and dubs each region gets, and its rules are not public: many videos, especially regional releases, have no Japanese subtitles at all, and even when they exist they may be unavailable where you are. InterSub can only use the subtitles Crunchyroll provides, so unfortunately we can't fix this on our side.

Absolutely! InterSub supports a wide range of languages. You can switch between different target languages depending on what you're learning. To set “Translate from” and “Translate to” options go to InterSub plugin settings in your browser.

InterSub is a browser extension for desktop Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox; a Safari version, including mobile, is coming soon. Your phone still helps: scan the QR code on the video to open Remote Control and look up words during playback, and practice your saved words in Anki or our Telegram bot.

Our AI-powered phrase detection and translations recognize English phrasal verbs, idioms, and compound nouns in the subtitles of videos you watch.

Yes. If a video has no subtitles in your language, InterSub can translate subtitles with AI on the fly: it takes the original line and shows the translation as the second one. If the platform does have subtitles in your language but they follow the dub, a loose literary version that doesn't match what is said, turn on forced AI translation: InterSub ignores that track and translates the original line by line. The AI subtitle translator comes with every paid plan and the free trial.

Yes, InterSub saves your learning progress and encountered vocabulary. You can review this data to reinforce your learning. InterSub saves all the words you looked up while watching videos in the InterSub Dashboard (your wordbook). To have access to InterSub Dashboard – click “Dashboard” in the plugin settings, then click "Words" in the side menu.

Every word you look up goes to your Wordbook, a vocabulary builder that fills itself while you watch. Sync it with Anki, desktop or mobile, in one click, or learn new words in our Telegram bot: it explains each word, checks your own example sentences with an AI tutor and brings words back with spaced repetition. Syncing your whole Wordbook needs a paid plan; you can also export words as an Excel file.

InterSub can be easily installed as a browser extension. Simply visit our website and follow the installation instructions for your specific browser.

Yes. Select a word or phrase on any website, or double-click a word, and a pop-up shows the translation with its context. So InterSub is also an instant translator and dictionary extension for articles, and a YouTube translator extension for comments and video descriptions: a Google Translate alternative that saves words with a link to the page they came from.

InterSub works in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox. The install page has a button for each browser.

It is an AI language tutor inside InterSub. Click the Magic button next to a translation and ask what a word means in this scene, how to use it, which synonyms fit or how the grammar works, or type your own question. It runs on ChatGPT, so it can translate meaning, not just words, and you can save its definition to your Wordbook.

Yes. In the subtitle settings you can set the background opacity, down to fully transparent, the font size of each line, and the text and outline color for each language. You can also move subtitles higher or lower, choose a wide or narrow background, and resize or move them with hotkeys.

Yes. You can add subtitles in another language to content in your native language, which helps with vocabulary and reading. And if you only want subtitles in videos you're learning from, turn on auto-hide: on Netflix and YouTube InterSub hides the subtitles when the audio is in your native language.

Shadowing means repeating a line out loud right after the speaker, a popular way to practice pronunciation, for example shadowing English with the shows you love. In InterSub's shadowing mode the video pauses after each line so you can repeat it. Set the pause from 1× to 2× the length of the line, and press S to turn it on or off.

Remote control – the ability to control video playback and look up words in subtitles using any smartphone, without needing a computer. When paused, the subtitle and the translation of the selected unfamiliar word will be displayed. After closing the translation window, playback will automatically resume.

Your browser updates InterSub automatically. When a new version is out, InterSub tells you in its settings and on the extension icon; to get it right away, quit your browser and open it again. This works the same in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.

1. Start Your Video on Netflix. Open Netflix on your laptop, select the video you want to watch, and start playing it.
2. Enable Dual Subtitles in Your Browser: Make sure that InterSub dual subtitles are working on your laptop. Open Netflix in a supported browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox), and InterSub will automatically display dual subtitles, with your native language alongside the original subtitles. You can adjust the subtitle languages in the settings if needed.
3. Connect to Your Smart TV Using AirPlay:

• Go to System Settings on your Mac, then select Displays.
• Click the “+” button to add a new display, and choose your smart TV from the dropdown menu. (Ensure your TV is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac).
• When your TV shows “AirPlay” on the screen, drag and drop your Netflix browser tab to the TV display to view Netflix with dual subtitles on your smart TV.

4. Control Dual Subtitles from Your Phone:

• Scan the QR code displayed on your screen with your phone to enable subtitles remote control for InterSub. This allows you to adjust settings directly from your phone while watching on your TV.
